Joe Biden, Savior for Obama Jokes?
We Have a Winner
The big news today is Obama's choice of running mate, Joe Biden. You can debate the politics and strategy of the decision all you want--and believe me, people already are--but I only care about one thing: this solves our Obama-joke dilemma. As I predicted earlier, no one is going to make fun of Obama; but people might be able to make fun of the Biden-Obama team.
Think about it: charismatic, young, black guy and old, uninspiring white guy? The possibilities are endless! Buddy movie scenarios spring immediately to mind--you know, where the young buck teaches the crusty old partner how to live again? How about some sort of reverse Lone Ranger joke, with Biden as a Tonto-esque figure? That way, you could turn the race issue on its head. In fact, if you were brave enough to incorporate that subject, all you'd have to do is get Mel Brooks in here. Blazing Saddles-inspired spoof, anyone?
I fully expect to see some decent jokes based on this choice. The Daily Show had better do its best Monday, with SNL following suit. Seriously, guys, we're going to need something to relieve the tedium.
